Here is a short description of our "Poppy country" and the activities available to you:

 

Albert and his surroundings is: the memory circuit :

 

During the Battle of the Somme, we can count 1,200,000 men killed, wounded or missing.

To remember, there are many memory sites:

Between 400 and 500 German and French military cemeteries, but also mainly British.

Memorials and monuments in the main villages where the conflict took place. (Albert, La boisselle, Pozières, Thiepval, Beaumont Hamel, Mametz, Fricourt).

Interactive museums retracing the lives of soldiers during the battle. (with real objects dating from the time). These museums are located in Albert, Thiepval, Auchonvillers, Villers-Bretonneux.

 

You can explore these sites on your own, with your family or, if you prefer, during a guided tour that can take place over ½ day or over the full day. (inquire at the Albert tourist office).

 

Commemorative ceremonies are also organized every year. (see program).

 

Discover the circuit of remembrance in another way? Take the Véloroute de la Mémoire which stretches for 90 km between Amiens and Arras and crosses the main sites of the Battle of the Somme.

If you do not come with your bike you can rent it from the tourist office.

 

Albert is: his architecture :

 

It is called the city with three bell towers: The town hall, The Basilica and the station.

You can stroll around the city to discover its Decorative Art style buildings, its Neo Byzantine style Basilica and the golden virgin (with gold leaf) at its summit located at 62 meters. You can even go up there, the view is breathtaking! (inquire at the tourist office).

For a moment of tranquility, go to the pond of the velodrome. You can take a walk there to the sound of birdsong and accompanied by ducks.

Do you want nature? This is the place for you!

Located about ten kilometers from Albert, the Somme valley stretches for 120 km between Péronne and St Valéry sur Somme.

A hallway and a cycle path are set up there

You can go there for a family walk but also, if you prefer, during frequently organized hikes. Do you prefer cycling? Do not hesitate !

If you feel hungry when you return from your day full of discovery, go to one of the restaurants in Albert or in the surrounding villages where you can taste some regional dishes (such as Picardy ficelle) and never leave. without having gone through a bakery to ask for our traditional "Gâteau battu".

You will also find in Albert several shops filled with gift and souvenir ideas.
